Financial District

The financial services center of New York, “FiDi” is home to skyscrapers, Wall Street, the Freedom Tower and a great many businesses. With tons of convenient transportation options, increased housing selection and great skyline views, the Financial District is quickly transforming from a work-focused hub to a residential paradise. Windy, cobblestone streets tell the story of a much older New York from the days before urban planning.

Where Is

The Locals

Residents of the Financial District are largely affluent business professionals, many of whom work in the area and live in the variety of large condos that dot the area.

What's to Love

During day time, the Financial District hums with energy like no other part of New York. It also has great public transportation options, with access to nearly every subway line running through the neighborhood. There are also plenty of amenity-filled high-rises offering incredible views of Manhattan and the NYC waterways. And South Street Seaport

What's Not to Expect

The area is busy during workweek hours but completely empties out at night and on the weekends. There are only limited nightlife and entertainment options. Because most all properties are upscale condos, housing inventory is not diverse and pricing is uniformly high, even compared to other parts of lower Manhattan.

Financial District Look & Feel

The Financial District is dominated by the huge height of the many skyscrapers in the area, the most famous of which is obviously the Freedom Tower. During day time, there are people everywhere, while at night the neighborhood completely empties out. The Financial District is also filled with many smaller, windy cobblestoned streets which feel quite distinct from the typical grid-like structure of New York streets.

Great Eats Cool Drinks & Nights Out & Entertainment

As the financial center of New York, it should be no surprise that FiDi features a great number of New York’s best and finest eateries. Some of which include:

Top Choices:
  • Antica Ristorante: classic, high-end authentic Italian
  • MarkJoseph Steakhouse: a top steakhouse that competes with Wolfgang’s and Peter Luger’s
  • Cipriani Wall Street: another classic Italian and site for many business deals
  • Schilling: French bistro
  • Delmonico’s: another of New York’s famous steakhouses

Parks & Rec

With so many skyscrapers there isn’t much room for parkspace in FiDi, Columbus Park being one of the few green areas.

Guest Lodging

Fortunately, the Financial District features more hotels than just about any area of New York City except midtown, and they are available in a variety of budget levels including:

Andaz Wall Street
Four Points Sheraton
Holiday Inn
Residence Inn Marriott
