Flatiron/NoMad
Considered the very heart of Manhattan, the Flatiron is named after one of the most famous and iconic buildings in the entire city, a wedge-shaped triangular building--perfect background for an “I heart NY” postcard snap. Right next to it, Madison Square Park and its outdoor lunch spots, colorful iron tables and chairs attract thousands of tourists every day, that especially in the warm season, mix with local residents and workers nearby come to take breaks

What's Not to Expect
The neighborhood bustles all week long, so don’t expect empty streets during the daytime; conversely, though there are a smattering of clubs within, nightlife isn’t the neighborhood’s focus and so the streets get relatively calm during latenights. As a desirable part of central Manhattan, it’s also quite pricey and with generally low real estate inventory to high demand.
Great Eats Cool Drinks & Nights Out & Entertainment
The Farmer’s Market held in Union Square and the 4-story all-Italian delicatessen and restaurant Eataly, are always packed and for. The rest of the neighborhood is studded with small bars, speakeasies and rooftop bars. And hi, Shake Shack in park!
Top picks:
- Gramercy Tavern: classic, classy American farm-to-table
- Birreria: Eataly’s rooftop restaurant, a must-visit in the neighborhood
- Hill Country BBQ: a low-key Texas-style NYC BBQ staple
- ABC Kitchen: top-notch American
- Ilili: upscale Lebanese/Mediterranean food
