Where Is

The Locals

Savvy, established creatives, artists and professionals and a constant flow of tourists.

What's to Love

Talk about iconic--with its cobblestoned streets, beautiful boutiques and unique architecture, Soho is a visually striking neighborhood with street scenes that come straight out of famous films. Shopping is abundant, with both high-end and mainstream shopping. There are a great many top-notch restaurants and bars as well.

What's Not to Expect

Real estate here is at the highest end for New York, so expect no bargains. The streets are also frequently crowded, as they are filled with tourists during the day on weekdays and especially weekends. Street parking is also impossible during the week, so car owners must pay for garage space. No greenspaces, but plenty of others are easily accessible in nearby nabes.

Soho Look & Feel

Broadway’s famously hectic modern thoroughfare of multi-floored megashops and constantly flow of tourists provides the commercial pulse for the neighborhood, but most of Soho has an Old New York vibe of the famous cobblestoned streets and huge, cast-iron buildings. Most of these buildings were once textile factories, making for great open floor apartments and studios--which is why many were converted into the artist lofts that Soho became famous for.

Great Eats Cool Drinks & Nights Out & Entertainment

Williamsburg has become a rising star in the NYC restaurant scene, with restauranteurs opting to launch new locales here rather than Manhattan--nearly all of which impart the same fresh and carefully curated Williamsburg identity. Fortunately, you can find a complete list of them all, plus top recommendations on the site FreeWilliamsburg.com. Williamsburg also has a diverse array of nightlife of all types, ranging from classy cocktail bars, dive bars, nightclubs, bowling alleys and even a unique “dinner & movie” theatre. Top Choices:
  • Balthazar: French, Soho’s most famous spot
  • Sant Ambroeus: one of the neighborhood’s newest and best Italian entrants
  • Blue Ribbon Brasserie: top-notch American-style bistro
  • La Esquina: Mexican, a secret jewel hidden underneath a taco stand
