Tribeca

Hunkered down near the bottom of the island, Tribeca (technically “TriBeCa”, the Triangle Below Canal St) is one of Manhattan’s most affluent and sophisticated neighborhoods. After a Bohemian revitalization of the area by artists, the neighborhood has transformed into one the highest-end areas for real estate in all of New York. Populated by beautiful cast iron buildings with lofts and upscale newer condos, Tribeca is the place to go for chic, enviable cool.

Where Is

The Locals

An eclectic mix of affluent, established professionals and artists looking to be downtown.

What's to Love

Tribeca is a subtly beautiful neighborhood with visually striking architecture. Similar in spirit to neighbor Soho but quieter as it lacks the sea of tourists filling Soho daily. It offers great, high-end choices for both restaurants and nightlife and a variety of beautiful housing options. It’s conveniently located for anyone wanting proximity to the Financial District, or for getting out of town quickly via the Holland Tunnel.

What's Not to Expect

Real estate here is at the highest end for New York, so expect no bargains. Despite the nightlife, it’s also a relatively quiet neighborhood, so those preferring hustle and bustle might want to look elsewhere.

Tribeca Look & Feel

Tribeca is dominated by beautiful cast iron buildings, many of which were once large industrial complexes and now offer incredible high-ceilinged loft apartments. Everything around has a classy look and feel to it and there are trees abound on many streets, plus lots of tiny greenspace squares. The streets are relatively bare, which reduces tourist flow and keeps things quiet and restrained.

Great Eats Cool Drinks & Nights Out & Entertainment

Perhaps due to its local residents, Tribeca has a higher concentration of top restaurants than just about any area in Manhattan outside of Columbus Circle.

Top picks:
  • The Odeon: an American bistro at the heart of the neighborhood
  • Locanda Verde: Robert DeNiro’s Italian restaurant, a local staple
  • Bouley: classy haute French cuisine
  • Marc Forgione: fresh take on American fusion
  • GunBae: excellent Korean BBQ
